Mission Statement

Maryknoll Lay Missioners is a Catholic organization inspired by the mission of Jesus to live and work with poor communities in Africa, Asia, and the Americas, responding to basic needs and helping to create a more just and compassionate world.

Our History


Maryknoll Lay Missioners is one of the three separately operated entities of Maryknoll Missioners, a U.S.-based Catholic mission movement. Since 1911, Maryknoll has responded to the worldwide cry of people in need, such as the poor, the sick, the elderly, war-zone refugees, and orphans. The three distinct branches of Maryknoll Missioners are Maryknoll Society (Fathers and Brothers), Maryknoll Congregation (Sisters), and us, Maryknoll Lay Missioners. Each branch of is separately funded and depends on its unique donors for support.

We Are

  • 137 missioners - single men and women, couples, and families
  • working in 17 countries, applying our skills and knowledge to respond to the basic needs of the poor

  • Africa: Kenya, Tanzania and Zimbabwe
  • Asia: Cambodia, East Timor, Myanmar, Nepal, Thailand and Vietnam
  • Latin America: Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, El Salvador, Mexico, Peru, Venezuela
  • North America: U.S. - Mexico Border
